Collaboration with UMA
For 27 years, Airzone has partnered with the University of
Málaga (UMA) to leverage academic expertise in engineering, enriching our technological capabilities. In 2023, this collaboration evolved into the Airzone-UMA Joint Innovation Laboratory (LIC), a hub dedicated to integrating IoT, Cybersecurity, Big Data, and AI advancements into our solutions.
The LIC serves as a vital bridge between academic research and practical application, enhancing our competitiveness by developing tailored solutions for industry challenges. This partnership also exemplifies effective public-private collaboration, driving innovation and strengthening our business through access to public research funding.
Our work at the LIC, in collaboration with UMA’s KHAOS (Big Data) and ERTIS (Industrial IoT) research groups, has been pivotal in advancing energy management technologies, contributing to the establishment of our Center of Excellence in DERMS.

Current Initiatives: Driving Innovation Through Collaborative Research
At the forefront of our research efforts, the Center of Excellence in DERMS is currently advancing several key projects that span the realms of Big Data, IoT, and Energy Management.

Since December 2023, we have been collecting and storing vast amounts of data related to HVAC behavior. This ongoing project focuses on modeling HVAC systems using this data to uncover patterns and insights that can drive more effective energy management. In parallel, we are developing a chatbot to support our Airzone Cloud platform, with the aim of offering personalized, real-time support to end users, making energy management more intuitive and accessible.
Big Data: Harnessing Information for Intelligent HVAC Solutions

In the IoT domain, our team is conducting a comprehensive audit of our cloud architecture to ensure that it meets the highest standards of security and efficiency. Additionally, we are working on the integration of the MQTT protocol, a lightweight messaging protocol that enhances communication between devices in our IoT ecosystem. This integration is crucial for ensuring seamless, reliable data exchange across our network, enabling more responsive and adaptable energy management systems.
